The Senior Citizens’ Support Group was first established as the Senior Citizens’ Action Group in 2010 and changed its name in 2012. The group was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in March 2015 and registered with the Charity Commission with the number 1160774.
The Group is a non profit organisation run by the members for the members. There are up to twelve Trustees including the officers of the organisation, Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The Trustees are augmented by a small number of co-opted members. The Board of Trustees and committee members are all volunteers. The charity does not employ any paid staff.
The aim of the Group is to provide at least one form of activity or event every week and thus ensure that members have something to look forward to at all times.
Meet Our Trustees
All Trustees are volunteers and members of the Group. They are elected at the Annual General Meeting, usually held in August, for a period of three years. The Constitution of the Group calls for a maximum of twelve Trustees with one third retiring each year, although they may be re elected. From the Trustees there are elected a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The Trustees form the majority of the managing Board, which can be augmented by co-opted members should the Trustees so deem.
Tom has served the Group since 2012. Following his retirement from his own business Tom has worked with and is also a Trustee with a number of local charities. Tom is the chair of the trustees, and he is also responsible for member recruitment, fund raising, organising excursions and publicity.
Joined the club in 2015 and became treasurer in August 2016. Born and raised in Hobury, worked for Wakefield Post Office for 16 years and then spent 27 years in the holiday trade in Scarborough. Now fully retired and doing what he can for the club.
Sue is a new volunteer, has experience over a wide spectrum of employment but of late mainly working as an administrator for large and small companies, including a charity. Now retired and eager to get involved with this active group. Elected as a Trustee at the AGM in August 2015.
Alan has served the Group since early 2013 and becoming Secretary in late 2013. After retiring from a successful career with British Gas Alan manages to combine his voluntary work with the Group with running his own business. As well as his secretarial duties, Alan finds the time to head up the sub committee that organises all the Theme days and Christmas Lunches.
Gillian joined the Group in 2013 after responding to one of adverts for Volunteers. Having retired from a successful career in The NHS, Gillian decided that she would like to put something back into the local community and now produces all the posters and newsletter that are published by the Group. She is a regular volunteer at Chair Aerobics, Coffee Mornings and also acts as the Group photographer.
Amanda was elected as a Trustee at the AGM in November 2017. Amanda has lived in Horbury since 1995 and has over 30 years experience in business management, administration and event planning. No longer able to work full time due to health reasons, Amanda applied to volunteer for the group as she wanted to make a contribution to the community in which she lives.
