The Senior Citizens’ Support Group was first established as the Senior Citizens’ Action Group in 2010 and changed its name in 2012. The group was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in March 2015 and registered with the Charity Commission with the number 1160774.
The Group is a non profit organisation run by the members for the members. There are up to twelve Trustees including the officers of the organisation, Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The Trustees are augmented by a small number of co-opted members. The Board of Trustees and committee members are all volunteers. The charity does not employ any paid staff.
The aim of the Group is to provide at least one form of activity or event every week and thus ensure that members have something to look forward to at all times.
Meet Our Trustees
All Trustees are volunteers and members of the Group. They are elected at the Annual General Meeting, usually held in August, for a period of three years. The Constitution of the Group calls for a maximum of twelve Trustees with one third retiring each year, although they may be re elected. From the Trustees there are elected a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The Trustees form the majority of the managing Board, which can be augmented by co-opted members should the Trustees so deem.
Alan has served the Group since early 2013 and becoming Secretary in late 2013 and then Chair in September 2018. After retiring from a successful career with British Gas Alan manages to combine his voluntary work with the Group with running his own business. As well as his duties as Chair, Alan finds the time to head up the sub committee that organises all the Theme days and Christmas Lunches.
Joined the club in 2015 and became treasurer in August 2016. Born and raised in Hobury, worked for Wakefield Post Office for 16 years and then spent 27 years in the holiday trade in Scarborough. Now fully retired and doing what he can for the club.
Tom has served the Group since 2012. Following his retirement from his own business Tom has worked with and is also a Trustee with a number of other local charities. Tom has previously carried out the role of the chair of the trustees. He is now responsible for member recruitment, fund raising, organising excursions and publicity.
Gillian joined the Group in 2013 after responding to one of adverts for Volunteers. Having retired from a successful career in The NHS, Gillian decided that she would like to put something back into the local community and now produces all the posters and newsletter that are published by the Group. She is a regular volunteer at Chair Aerobics, Coffee Mornings and also acts as the Group photographer.
Moira worked as an administrator in various companies, her last working position being with an older persons organisation. After retiring Moira joined SCSG as a volunteer and went on to take over the booking of the excursions and the membership. She also assists with the monthly walks and is a member of the Management Committee
Meet Our Management Committee
The Management Committee consists of leaders of different activities who meet to organise the SCSG events and activities. They are all volunteers and members of the Group. Between them they have many years' experience of our group.
Margaret organises our regular Lunch Club events.
Gillian organises our regular Fun & Fitness events and also produces our monthly What’s On Guide.
Moira organises our regular trips and walks.
Josie organises our regular Chair Aerobics and also our retail and theatre events.
Elaine organises our regular Bingo events and also co-ordinates our many volunteers.
Frank organises our regular Social Coffee Mornings.
