Volunteers Needed!

You are probably aware that the Senior Citizens Support Group is run entirely by volunteers and does not employ any paid staff. Without the time and effort put in by our volunteers the group simply could not exist.

The expansion of the group and the general wellbeing of the group constantly changes and with it the need for additional volunteers with varied skills also changes. Should you or someone you know like to be become a volunteer with this group, please call 0800 9788 614 and leave your Name, Address, Post Code, Phone Number and a short message indicating which vacancy interests you and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

We will provide all the training that is required and we make no restrictions with regard to who may apply and some of the posts can be done from home. We give an indication on each post of the minimum time requirement but if you wished to volunteer extra time it will be gratefully received.

Our New Website is Launched!

We are pleased to announce that our new website is now live!

Senior Citizens Support Group is a Wakefield based charity that caters for residents who consider themselves to be Senior Citizens. There are no limitations on age since they believe that age is merely a number. The group was founded in 2010 to provide projects and events that would appeal to the more mature members of the community. Initially aimed at the residents of Horbury and Ossett but expanded to include residents throughout Wakefield MDC. From small beginnings, the group has grown and now boosts a membership just short of 600.

The group has consistently invested in more and more sophisticated methods of communication with its members since the primary aim is to combat loneliness in this sector of the population. Several years ago, they introduced their website as one of the methods of communication but it has become obvious that this website has outlived its sell by date and therefore a new purpose built website was commissioned from Engaging Education. Working closely with Engaging Education a new user friendly web site has been developed which will be accessed by members, funders, suppliers and the public. All the activities and events are presented in a readily accessible format and are easily updated by dedicated volunteers.

The group are extremely grateful to the Horbury Common Lands Trust for their grant towards the purchase of this website.

Tom Long, Chair said “We are proud of this new weapon in our armory to fight loneliness. It is a common misconception that the older generation shun modern technology but our experience is just the opposite. Many of our members have attended the courses that we have organized and now enjoy the internet either with their own equipment, through family members or via the groups equipment”

Johnny Wootton of Engaging Education said “It has been a pleasure to work in partnership with Tom, the Senior Citizens Support Group and all stakeholders to develop this website. From the development of the branding, handouts, promotional materials and website we’re proud to help where possible in growing awareness of the vital support that SCSG delivers. Please browse the different pages to find out about upcoming events, support on offer and crucially, how to get involved!”
